At Invision Sally Jobe, we are proud to celebrate our nurse navigators! This is a spotlight on Nurse Navigator Abby.
What are your credentials, and what position do you hold at ISJ?
Bachelor’s of Science in nursing, Oncology-Certified Nurse, Chemo-Certified Nurse, Basic Life Support. Over 10 years of oncology-specific nursing experience and over five years of breast cancer nurse navigation.
How, when and why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
My mother was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in her forties. I was in college at the time and knew I wanted to be in the medical field but unsure of exactly what I wanted to do. It wasn’t until I started going with my mom to her oncology appointments and treatments that I realized I wanted to be an oncology nurse. I wanted to be that hope and guidance for patients.
What made you want to work at Invision Sally Jobe?
Prior to ISJ, I was navigating breast cancer patients out of a hospital setting. I did not feel like my expertise was being put to the best use, as we did not have a large volume of patients. At ISJ, we have a significant volume of patients with high-risk and cancer diagnoses. I am able to navigate, educate and support more patients through a difficult journey. I am here to hopefully alleviate some of their stresses and fears by educating … knowledge is power!
What do you like most about working at Invision Sally Jobe?
We have an exceptional team, from registrars to schedulers, from doctors to techs, from nurses to leadership. We are all here to serve our patients and provide the best possible care and support. We truly are a one-of-a-kind team providing top-notch breast care, and I am grateful to be a part of something so special.
