How, when and why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
A career in medicine was always in the back of my mind, because it’s what I knew growing up. My father was an interventional cardiologist and I was always intrigued by his work. I also always had an interest in the neurosciences. I didn’t make the commitment to medicine, however, until I took a year after college to work for a neurosurgeon who ran a lab studying epilepsy. I was in charge of the monkeys at the primate lab that were used for the research. This gave me the opportunity to see the operating room as well, and I was convinced that a career in medicine was right for me. I had a background in physics and, in combination with my interest in the neurosciences, I started to think in particular about pursuing radiology.
What do you like most about your job?
Radiology is unique in that, while being a subspecialty field, it allows for exposure to all the general areas of medicine. I enjoy having that wide array of knowledge and the opportunity to work with other physicians from all the fields of medicine. I also like that radiology is at the forefront of technology. It will always be looking for the newest and best methods to help aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Finally, I feel honored to work with so many intelligent and passionate physicians. Radiology seems to attract very intelligent and balanced individuals, and that is always a joy to encounter at work.
What is your favorite way to spend free time?
My greatest joy is in spending time with my wife and children. We have a busy family life keeping up with many growing children, and it keeps us on our toes. We enjoy trips to the mountains, skiing, hiking, and a variety of individual hobbies and team sports. I personally enjoy grilling and barbequing and fixing things around the house. My wife and I have an affinity for food and always enjoy going out and finding great places to eat or grab a coffee.
What do you like most about working at RIA?
What has always captured my intrigue since joining RIA is the concentration of highly trained and talented individuals all working under the same banner and striving for the same goal: the best radiological care a patient can find. It truly is gratifying to be part of a radiology group that strives for excellence and works in a collaborative environment.
