We got a chance to learn more about Jessica Cox, DO, PhD. We are glad she chose to work at Invision Sally Jobe.
How, when and why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
My path to medicine was a little less traditional then some, but I eventually found my way! My lifelong love for animals, and especially horses, had me on an initial trajectory towards veterinary medicine, so after moving to Colorado many years ago, I spent some time working at the Equine Orthopedic Research Center at the CSU vet school. During my time there, I became very interested in radiology and entered graduate school at CSU to study radiological physics. At this point, I was still torn between veterinary and human radiology but eventually found myself pulled towards medical school and am now a human radiologist.
What do you like most about your job?
I feel so fortunate that I pretty much found my dream job in our group! As a general radiologist in a small rural mountain hospital, I get to be involved in many aspects of diagnostic and interventional radiology on a daily basis, and I get to work alongside a group of amazing people that have become family to me. I also really love that radiology allows me to interact with providers from all other specialties but that it also allows me to have direct contact with my patients. Radiology is never boring!
What is your favorite way to spend free time?
We love living in Southwest Colorado and spend our free time enjoying all that the mountains have to offer, especially skiing and mountain biking. And now that our kids are getting old enough, we are really loving seeing them get excited about those same things! Our kids have also become adventurous eaters, so cooking is becoming a fast favorite in our home.
What do you like most about working at RIA?
Hands down, the best part of working at RIA is the people I get to work with. I am constantly amazed by my colleagues’ thoughtfulness, brilliance and hard work. Everyone comes together to take the best possible care of our patients, and I am so thankful I get to be a part of that.
