Phillip Gunther, MD is a neuroradiologist in Denver. We were privileged to get a quick chat with him about what he does and why he loves working in radiology.
How, when and why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?
As an elementary school-age child, I would visit my mother at her job as a laboratory tech in an outpatient center (part of the Denver Health System now). I remember watching her as she interacted with the staff, patients and doctors and thinking that medicine was where I wanted to work. I wanted to help patients like they did.
What do you like most about your job?
I love the intellectual challenge of each case and the application of technology to medicine. I also like the interaction with patients during image-guided procedures.
What is your favorite way to spend free time?
I am an outdoorsman at heart and love skiing, hiking and fishing. I am also an avid woodworker.
What do you like most about working at RIA?
The people — staff, technologists and radiologists. Every day, I am amazed by the talent in this group.
